It was all an act. The nonchalance, the cheerful smiles, the nonsensical chit chats. All a facade to hide her weakness. For the benefit of the one sitting opposite her. The one who had just casually mentioned something that had the effect of a vicious head blow, knocking out all thoughts from her mind. It took all her might to maintain the smile on her face as she looked away and ratter off some inane reply. Pride preventing her from showing her true emotions. To reveal the deep cut made by his words. At the same spot that she had tried to cut to remind and accustom herself to the pain.
